We missed our connecting flight in Los Angeles by 30 minutes. Next flight out is on Friday. Not how we thought this would go.
We spent this day at Disneyland in LA waiting for our flight.
We arrived in Beijing today and went directly to the camp with the kids. They are awesome. The Majors enjoyed Beijing while we were in LA.
We were able to spend a little time playing ball with the kids on Sunday night before opening day on Monday. Their personalities vary greatly, but they all are quite charming. The opening ceremony was somewhat formal; the director of the Chinese Center for Adoptive Affairs (CCAA) spoke and the children received their gifts from us. Afterward, we had a session on US history and crafts in the afternoon. By Monday night, even the shy ones were becoming more comfortable with us.
These kids are from 8 to 13, boys and girls. Their stories vary. One precious girl (in the middle picture on the second row) has only been in the orphanage one month. Some of the children are true orphans; others were abandoned. They have been in an orphanage from a few weeks to their entire lives. They are here with nannies from each of their home provinces. This is a completely new experience for all of these kids. We are so excited to be able to spend time with them. We are hopeful that all these children will be placed in the international adoption program. Please pray for them!
Davis, along with Sean and Ryan Majors, have jumped in and enjoyed playing with the kids. It's amazing that the language barrier is hardly an issue with them.
One group of girls (third row, first pic on left) have American names that they use with us (Katie, Janelle, Maggie and Gina). All four of them speak a little English and write and read it quite well.
