Singin' in the Rain -
Sometimes culture just does not translate well:)

We began the morning with our normal revolving view of the city of Guangzhou during
breakfast at the 45th floor restaurant.  Naomi to her surprise decided the floor was moving.

I am not quite sure where she has been the last couple of days.  She wanted me to make it stop.
Daddies do have super powers, but I am not sure that I could pull that one off.
After filling up on American breakfast specialties and a few Chinese add-ons(fried rice,
spicy noodles and chili paste, WHY NOT?) we went to Shamian Island for a bit of shopping.
This popular small island in the city with Western style architecture is a favorite with the locals
for wedding pictures.  There seem to always be dozens of couple there.  We ate a bit of
lunch at Lucy's which serves Hamburgers, Quesadillas, Spaghetti, Pizza and Spicy Red
Pepper Chicken and rice.  I will let you assign the appropriate dish to the appropriate
family member.  I know you have never shared a meal with Hong Hui, but I think you can
deduce the right fit.
We hurried back to the hotel and met Annie Chen, a contact of mine for several years
through work.  She and her company have been a supplier for me of usb flash drives.
She lives in the area and was gracious enough to come and spend some time with us.  She
brought us some fresh lychee and we went to a local park for a stroll and a pedal boat ride.
A beautiful day turned into a flash flood.  We were out in the boat about 10 minutes
before we the gulley-washer came.  What fun!  We were finally towed to shore about 20
minutes and twenty gallons later.  We stood in the pouring rain for a bit until Naomi and I
decided that standing next to 20 wet Chinese people in a 10 squ
are foot area just was
not as fun as getting out on the "dance floor" and enjoying ourselves.  We danced, I sang

and they all looked.  Hong Hui laughed and laughed.
By the way, as you can see, Hong Hui wore her dress we bought her yesterday.  We bought
the silk dress thinking it would be a great keepsake for special occasions.  When we got
dressed this morning she came out with it on.  I tried to tell her it would be hot, but she insisted it was
the right choice and I decided I just did not know as much as my thirteen year old daughter.
She looked beautiful!
After returning to the hotel the kids and Christe had an afternoon nap and I went to see our guide
and finish our paperwork for the consulate appointment tomorrow.  We had a late dinner at Pizza Hut
and crashed.  It is now midnight and here I am awake and thinking I should post before you all think we
are running out of steam.  We are!  Goodnight!
