Out like a light
Where is that funny GuGu

Day 5
September 20th - 4am

I have been up for about an hour and can't stop staring at Naomi.  She is
precious.  What a gift from our Father!

We are doing well, just a bit tired.  Naomi went to sleep at 7pm just like her
paperwork said.  She is exhausted I am sure.  I cannot imagine what she went
through yesterday leaving one family for a nanny and then to a new family
of strange looking foreigners.  What a remarkable child to have managed a
smile yesterday.  She grieved so much when we received her.   We were in a
large conference room full of anxious parents waiting on children they had
prayed for and were about to receive.  The mood was a bit stressful.  The
babies were in the hallway each being held by a nanny from the orphanage.
The parents crowding around the doorway trying to remember to take
pictures and video.  Then one by one, they would bring the babies to the
doorway and ask the parents to come up and present their passports.  In a
moment they would look at the passport photo and then at the namebadge on
the child to compare names.  Immediately the baby was placed in the parents
arms.

We received Naomi at about 4:15pm.  I took her and she immediately began to
cry.  She cried for about an hour and a half before she finally settled down.
Christe brought her back up to the room while Davis and I finished some of the
multitudes of paperwork.  We could not get Naomi to take a bottle although
she seemed hungry and we knew she needed to eat.  She finally calmed down
when Davis finally settled in playing near here.  She loves her Gu Gu (Big
Brother).  She could not take her eyes off him.  What an answer to prayer.
Thank You Father!

She ended up playing pretty contently on the floor with a few new toys and
watching Davis jump around gleefully. She ate some Cherrios and drank some
water from a cup.  She has four teeth.  Two on top and two on bottom.  It
looks like many more are on their way.  She seems very small, but healthy.
It took her some time and then she began to respond and open up.  At first we
had to put the Cherrios in her mouth.  Then she started picking them up from
the cup, then pointing at the bag and then getting verbal.  She recognizes her
name. Tian.  She started jabbering many of words including MaMa.  MaMa is
the same in Mandarin/Cantonese as in English.  She quickly attached to
Christe and likes to be able to see me.  She loves to watch Davis and he even
made her smile and laugh!  He would put on my shoes and walk around.  She
thought that was fun.  She would dump her Cherrios out of the bowl.  Even
more fun...

She is sleeping soundly with little whimpers, small cries every hour or so
before settling back down quickly.  I am sure it is the stress or and empty
tummy that is causing this.  She has not woken up at all.
We will post more later.  Here are a couple of pictures from last night.
