Day 9
September 24 - 9pm
It was great to wake up in Guangzhou this morning. Let me correct that - it
was great to wake up late (8:45 am) in GZ. After a late night, we all enjoyed
some much-needed rest. Our hotel is lovely - a nice way to end our time in
China. And, Guangzhou is very cosmopolitan; I feel like we're in New York. I
even got to use a little French this morning at breakfast.
Today was a wonderful day for all of us. We headed to one of the parks near
our hotel late this morning. The park surrounds a large lake, which was
dotted with pedal boats. We spent the bulk of our time at a kiddie amusement
park, which Davis loved. It was a good time for him to run and play.
Naomi really enjoyed herself, too. She laughed and talked and spent some
quality time with Daddy while Davis and I rode rides. Ahhh, we finally seemed
like a fully functional family of four. As usual, we attracted lots of attention
in the park. But, the people don't seem as friendly as they were in Nanchang.
While Brian and Naomi napped this afternoon, Davis and I enjoyed a cup of
cocoa at Starbucks (in our hotel - fun!). It was a great time for the two of us.
I have missed my one-on-one time with him. We discussed the challenges of
being an older sibling!
Tonight, we had a little dinner party in our room with our new friends the
Stowes. They have a little girl (Faith) who's four, too. She and Davis have
become fast friends. They were going crazy together! We finally let them run
up and down the hall to burn off energy.
We ordered dinner from Danny's Bagels - a guy who's made a business on
Americans in need of good western food. It was great! And, it was a fun time
to visit with this sweet family. We're so enjoying the friends we've made on
this trip.
Naomi continues to settle in and open up to us. She's becoming a happy little
girl who laughs and smiles easily. And, she talks up a storm. I'm hoping she and
Davis will love talking to each other. Otherwise, I may never get a word in
edgewise!
Davis is settling into his role as big brother, too. He's even helping out with
her a little. I continue to pray that he will grow to really love her and that
they will be best friends in the coming months and years.
Thanks again for your continued prayers. It's a blessing.
